For those cowering in the movie section of the Twitter stream, that cacophonous noise you just heard was every Batman fanboy throwing spoons into half-eaten bowls of Cheerios in disgust.
They’re angry. And in their minds, they’re angry for a reason.
It’s just been announced that Ben Affleck will play the new Bruce Wayne/Batman in Zack Snyder’s Superman vs. Batman.
Considering the film won’t be released until at least 2015, the internet isn’t going to be a safe place to be for a long time to come as fury and bile bubbles up at the thought of this pale pretender to Christian Bale’s throne.
At least that’s how they see it.
But, why, I ask you? Here’s some reasons why Ben Affleck isn’t such a bad choice for the role of The Caped Crusader:
1. Back to Burton

It was always highly unlikely Bale was going to return to the cowl after Nolan’s Batman trilogy was completed. That era is over. Casting Affleck sends a clear message that they’re moving away from the crime opera and the growly voice.
Affleck’s got the jawline of a matinee idol, and I can see his take on Batman being much more pulpy, like the first Burton film.
2. How do you like ‘dem apples?

Affleck is no longer the cornball of Armageddon. He’s twice an Oscar-winner, superb director and a much improved actor. Take a look at The Town, Argo and To The Wonder if you don’t believe me.
3. He was the best thing in Daredevil

He’s no stranger to superheroes, and Batman has the same gritty, street-level vibe of Matt Murdock. And yes, he was not to blame for that movie being a bust. His performance was far better than the script which put him in situations that ran contrary to the depiction of the character from the comic.

4. He knows Superman’s secrets

He even played George Reeves, the Superman of the 50s TV series, in Hollywoodland. This means he knows exactly how to defeat Superman. His weaknesses. Where the costume rides up at the back – that kind of thing.
5. He’s already been Bruce Wayne
Well, a take on Bruce Wayne. If you consider Bruce Wayne an aggressive leader of men…ok, it’s a stretch:
