Ottawa crash: Six dead after collision between passenger train and bus....
A

Pedwell)Six people have died and dozens injured after a passenger train collided with a bus in the Canadian capital of Ottawa.
The crash happened on a railway crossing just outside a suburban
train station in the city’s west end in the middle of the morning

Ottawa fire services spokesman Mark Messier told local television
station CP24 there are ‘multiple fatalities’, while another 30 have been
injured.
The front end of the double-decker bus was completely ripped off on
impact with the train and a number of passengers on the bus were

Pascal Lolgis, who witnessed the crash, said the bus appeared to drive through a lowered crossing barrier.

Robert Kurtenbach, who was on the top deck of the bus, told the
Ottawa Citizen: ‘I could see bodies lying there. The bus didn’t appear
to slow down.’
David Hugill, a passenger on the train, added: ‘It’s horrible. What
can I say? It was really undramatic on the train. It certainly didn’t
feel like it was an incident of that magnitude from where we were
sitting.
‘What can I say? It’s a brutal, brutal thing,’ he told told Canada’s CBC News.
Canada’s main rail companies -Canadian National Railway Co and
Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd – are currently reviewing safety standards

Mayor Jim Watson tweeted from the scene: ‘My thoughts are with the
victims of this accident. Please pray for those affected and for our 1st
responders dealing with this tragedy.’
