Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Thulani Serero will not be considered for future Bafana Bafana matches until he has written a letter to the association explaining himself after claiming that he was injured only to feature for his club a few days later.
The exclusion of Serero from the squad that will player Morocco on October 11 was not a surprise as the former Ajax Cape Town player is currently nursing an injury.
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said that, even if the player was fit, he would have not been considered for this match. This is due to outstanding issues from the last camp where Serero was ordered out of the camp on the eve of the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Botswana in Durban last month. This, Igesund said, did not mean that the door is closed on Serero.
Serero was asked to leave the camp for his lack of commitment after claiming that he was injured when, according to the medical team, that was not the case. However, Serero went on the offensive subsequent to that. He released a statement through his manager in SA stating that he did not fake injury and that he was committed to the national team.
A few days later he featured for his Dutch team in a league match before coming on as a second-half substitute in the Uefa Champions League match against Barcelona last week.
Igesund said the matter is now in the hands of the association, who have requested Serero to write a letter explaining himself. Until then, the player will not be considered for selection, Igesund said.
